Norðlingafljót

Nordlingafljót is a sizable river in the uplands east of the Borgarfjördur district.  It is not passable for salmon directly from the sea, but a leaseholder used to stock it by grown salmon from a salmon ranching operation at Hraunsfjördur.

There is some talk on building fishways to make it a self sustaining salmon river, but no plans have been made yet.  On the other hand the lease holders has started their own salmon ranching operation at the Hafnará river. It seems to be working moderately well.  Hopefully they will be able to keep the Norðlingafljót fishery this way in years to come.
